Self Drive Itineraries

The following tour itineraries are designed to give you, the traveller, a feel for the area, and are to be taken purely as a guide to enhance your visit. The tours have a starting and a finishing point but can be entered into wherever you wish, or at a point that would suit your own itinerary.

There are so many wonderful places to visit in the West Country that they cannot all be listed, but these guides will hopefully provide you with some good ideas with which to enjoy your stay.

John Wesley trail
In every part of our beautiful region you can trace John Wesley's footsteps, from scenic fishing villages to vibrant, cosmopolitan cities.

The Lorna Doone Tour follows the lush Devon landscape that draws thousands of fans keen to relive the Lorna Doone story.
The Thomas Hardy Tour follows the life of Thomas Hardy and the area known as Wessex.
The Maritime Tour takes us around the beautiful coastline of the region.
The Industrial Tour shows us around the West Country, with its rich industrial links both past and present.
The King Arthur Tour follows the popular legend of King Arthur and the many of its roots in the West Country.
The Royal Forest Route The Royal Forest of Dean, is both historically fascinating and mind-bendingly mythical. Visitors can experience a carefully chosen route of some 20-miles around the most magical broad-leaf forest in Britain.
